MPD is a Music Playing Daemon. It is made to control music. It does not do various things such as stream video, tag music, etc.. For a complete list, see the what MPD is and is not page.

[edit] August 20, 2008 - ncmpcpp 0.2 released

Ncmpcpp is clone of ncmpc rewritten from scratch in C++. It contains some useful features ncmpc doesn't provide, e.g. tag editor, easy to use search screen, lyrics screen or media library browser.

Several bugfixes, faster stored playlists, Bonjour support, .oga suffix support for Ogg containers. For a complete changelog, see:

Ario Ario is a full featured GTK2 client for MPD. It can be used to browse your library by tags, by files or to search for music in your database. The plugins system brings some more advanced features like audioscrobbler submission, lyrics and covers download or multimedia keys support.

[edit] March 15, 2008 - RelaXXPlayer 0.5 released

RelaXXPlayer is a web based client using AJAX and PHP. Instead of features like lyrics- and cover-databases, it was designed to present maximum oversight and a easy to use, but fast interface. RelaXXP supports custom skins, localization and user-rights. So it can be used as a Jukebox-Frontend in private homes or public places.

[edit] February 4, 2008 - Music Player Minion 1.0.1 released

Music Player Minion is a client built as a Firefox extension. This version includes the ability to send commands directly to MPD. Combined with the new Bookmark feature, commands can be saved and used to customize Minion. Also added many keyboard shortcuts and some new icons.

Music Player Minion is a new client built as a Firefox extension. Easy to install, runs on any platform Firefox can be installed on, and requires no web server. This is the initial release, it will eventually be listed on the Firefox Add-ons page.

[edit] November 26, 2007 - empcd-2007.11.26 non-maintainer-release

EMPCd, a client that translates input events (like the ones that USB devices generate) into mpd commands, is available in a new version. The main purpose of empcd is to provide means to control a headless mpd machine with an easy yet extentible input client. Think of gluing a small USB keypad to the side of your NSLU or think of finally using those "Media" keys on your wireless keyboard to control mpd.

[edit] August 10, 2007 - lnkMusic-0.1.9 released

LnkMusic, a new mpd client released! It is written in gambas (it needs gambas 1.9.49) and is qt based. It has some powerful features: you can manage the playlist simply by using drag 'n drop or by sorting it, add the files in the position and order you want, browse and search the tags in a totally simply and integrated window. It features an animated tray and a tooltip that lets you control mpd even if the main is not showed. It's an alpha release, try it and enjoy.

Theremin, the excellent OSX client, released version 0.5.0.1 fixing a serious bug concerning the library (was empty after restart).

It took longer than we had hoped, but 0.13.0 is finally here. See the ChangeLog for details, and grab the tarball from the Files page.

Visit pitchfork website to get the latest release of pitchfork. This release boosts playlistsearch and pagination support amongst other things.

[edit] March 18, 2007 - MPD WebAMP 1.0.2 released

MPD WebAMP 1.0.2 is available on the Python Cheese Shop. This release is mostly bug fixes and tweaks to improve performance and stability. Notable changes since 0.6 include full Unicode support and the ability to limit how many playlist items are displayed at once.

pbmpcd bridges mpd and a bemused midlet on a bluetooth device. 07-03-17 release is compatible with JAM SE midlet on both SonyEricsson and Nokia handhelds.

[edit] March 2, 2007 - MPD WebAMP 0.6 released

MPD WebAMP 0.6 is available on the Python Cheese Shop. This release finally adds Similar Artists from last.fm and album art that's available regardless of whether it found the lyrics. Theming is also available, this release includes four themes (all color variations on the default). Also has many improvements to playlist loading and moving items within the playlist.
